How 2 get Debian to broadcast its host name to my router?

I have a router and when my Debian machine connects I get "null" as the host name. How can I get it to display the host name?

Good.

Then you have to have somewhere dhclient.conf. Probably in /etc/dhcp3/dhclient.conf.

Find "dhclient.conf" and add there: send host-name "YOUR HOST NAME" ( send host-name "xxx.xxx.com")

And dhclient should send it to router each time it asks for IP.

You can check "man dhclient.conf", because I've read about it, but never use.

nimnull22, thanks that is exactly what i did.

1. I edited this file /etc/dhcp3/dhclient.conf by looking for this line "send host-name", adding it or removing the comment "#" from in front of it.

2. I changed it to the following and my Belkin router can see it's name.

send host-name "myrouterwilldisplaythisname";

Thanks for the help.

Yes, but does it work?
Does your router cache your hostname?
