Hotplug usb agent "Cannot get config descriptor 0"?

Hi all,

Can anyone tell me what the usb hotplug problem is that my system is struggling with while it starts up ethernet at boot time? My post-boot /var/log/messages is down below. See the recurring chunks like this:

Oct 26 18:26:52 linux kernel: usb-uhci.c: ENXIO 80000380, flags 0, urb c61e23e0, burb c61e24e0
Oct 26 18:26:52 linux kernel: usbdevfs: USBDEVFS_CONTROL failed dev 3 rqt 128 rq 6 len 103 ret -6
Oct 26 18:26:52 linux /etc/hotplug/usb.agent[969]: cannot get config descriptor 0, No such device or address (6)

This is my home system and is networked through a USB cable modem ethernet adapter to my ISP. A printer is on anther USB port. Both devices are configured as hotplugged. The problem is not serious. The network normally starts up in about 5 seconds and everything works, but I'd like to understand what the snag is and fix it.
