Hot to set a Domain Name.

Hello,

I would like to know how to set a domain name for my red hat PC.
Someone told me that I had to install samba...
But I would like to know if its possible to set a domain name without installing samba (just by using shell commands and editing some files).

Thanks in advance.

Alain.

It's me again. Maybe my question is not very clear.
I don't want to create a Domain Name (DNS) for web connection or else. I just want to create a DOMAIN to be able to see the domain from any PC which is browsing our intranet.

Alain.

Do you mean the PC Name? As in something to identify it to other PC's.

EG:
Work1
Work2
Home1
These being the PC's on your network

Or do you mean the name of the Intranet Server?

Sounds like you want to set up a "workgroup". I think you are using "domain" in the context of a Windows domain. Unless you have a Windows Server set up as a Domain Controller (I'm gussing you don't), you need to configure all of your windows machines for the same workgroup. The default is WORKGROUP. Then, change your samba config on all your Linux machines to be in the same workgroup as well..
