I have searched the forums here and found several posts explaining how to fix this problem, and I have also searched on google but all of the fixes I have tried are not working. I think that I am doing something wrong. I am getting this error message after I log in:
Could not look up internet address for Firewall. This will prevent GNOME from operating correctly. It may be possible to correct the problem by adding Firewall to the file /etc/hosts.
Here is what my hosts file looks like:
# Do not remove the following line, or various programs
# that require network functionality will fail.
127.0.0.1 localhost localhost.localdomain.firewall
192.168.0.1 localhost localhost.localdomain.firewall
I have two network cards in my machine, and one is connected to my cable modem and one is connect to my LAN. Since I am using X I can configure it using the network configuration utility. What changes should I make so that this error goes away?
Thanks for your help Slick...I adjusted my hosts file a little (I was confused, but I understand it now) and everything is working great and that error message is gone! I'm not sure what I would do without these forums, but my sanity is intact because of people like you that are willing to help. Im really starting to love Linux, and I can see that what people have been telling me about Linux being superior to Windows is true...I am now a believer..and a user.
Now that EVERYTHING is working, I am going to take a nap =).
