HostAP and Prism2 chipset
Hi there,
I am about to start a project on wireless Access Points, and I need to convert a Linux box into an access Point. I would need a little of advice.. So far I know that to have a Linux box behave like an AP you need to install HostAP and recompile the kernel. Also, you need a wireless card which has the Prism2 chipset so it can be used by HostAP. http://trekweb.com/~jasonb/articles/...20030727.shtml The latest news is that FC5 has built in support to be an access point (http://fedora.redhat.com/docs/releas...fc5/#id3103992) Also, it seems there is this utility, hostAP-utils which can emulate an AP without the need for recompiling the kernel. http://atrpms.net/dist/fc5/hostap-utils/ I have many questions, but I would appreciate a little insight from you guys... among other things, the wireless card which I know it works, the Linksys WPC11, is not sold anymore.. I might be able to get it.. but does anyone know of another wireless card which does work with HostAP? tnx, Fernando |
