Host Unreachable, but only from console.

Hello all,

I've just put Gentoo on a second box on my home network. Both machines have pretty much the same software installed, but I have network problems on the new one.

From the console, if I ping my router then I get Destination Host Unreachable or simply no response at all, with packets being dropped. Funny thing is, the router responds fine if I ping from an xterm, or even an ssh connection from outside the box. Other network commands responds similarly, for example, I cannot mount network file sytems from the console but only from within X or ssh.

Can anyone offer any suggestions as to why this might be so?
