host name
Ok, here is the deal
I've registered a domain name with godaddy and they are asking me for the host name. I really dont understand what that means. Is not it just the name that i specify while i am doing the name server? Like if i have a name server dilberim.com, the host name would be ns1.dilberim.com right? ns1 is the name i specified in bind. And what is the computer name? I thought it was just localhost. Is there a way to change it or something? GoDaddy really messed me up, i am confused. Either they dont know anything, or i did not get anything out of what i've been reading for about 2 months.

The host name is the name you've just registered. If they want details of the DNS server then you need to have a DNS server to give them the details of, it doesn't matter what you call it. It may well be called ns1.dilberim.com if you have setup a box called ns1 told it its in the dilberim.com domain and setup Bind on it so it can act as a DNS.
Do you follow? I've replyed to your email BTW (on this subject)
cheers

Thanks
I got your e-mail but there was nothing in the e-mail. It just had my original e-mail and a link to e-mail myself back. But, anyways, what do you mean if i have a box called ns1? You mean on my DNS configuration or the box itself is called ns1? And on godaddy, they have two boxes for modifying a name server.
Host Name: There is a box for entering the name.dilberim.com
and right underneath it there is a box for the ip address. But the q. is whats the name of my box?

The DNS configuration of the box shows its IP address associated as NS1 in yourdomain.com and the box itself is called NS1 probably too. The name of your box is whatever you have set it too. It needs to have an external name which is valid (from the point of view of the master DNS servers for the zone) which is something you decide.
Have resent that email, check out the first line!!
