host file

Hi
i edite the host file to force to lacal 127.0.0.1 unwanted web site.
but this function only if i have a direct connection to internet,if i pass thought my provider http proxy (proxy.libero.it) this does not fuction.
to bypass i have to specify to mozilla the list of site that does not use proxy.
it seems that mozilla process the host file only for the web site listed on his
parameter .
(this cause to me to repeat all the info in the host file...(i have a long list
of black list sites.......)
is there a way to force the host file processing first ?
thanks in advance
Maurizio

Mozilla doesn't ever look at the hosts file. What happens is that mozilla performs a DNS lookup for a given hostname, and the system checks /etc/hosts, then the DNS server. When using a proxy, the only DNS lookup performed is that of the proxy (as that is what Mozilla is connecting to). The proxy could look at ITS /etc/hosts file, but I doubt you have access to that. :)
