Angry Hop on traceroute

I have 1 computer directly connected through a cable router.
What is the first '10.*.*.*' hop on a traceroute? Is it the
modem?
I think so, but this confuses me, since first it's
just a bridge and second eth0 on my puter is the public IP
which would mean a private IP upstream?
Help!

If you interface is via an ethernet-connected device, the first IP that shows up will be the IP of that device that faces you.
