Hooking up to a cable gateway

I am using mandrake linux, and I am trying to connect to a Wireless-G Cable Gateway(linksys). I am not intending to connect wirelessly, but through a direct connection via USB cable. I read a tutorial on how to do this, but it involves installing something. My CD drive won't work, so I can't transfer between my computers. The drive opens and everything, but it won't read it(I don't know how). Help!

That's nice for you...

What exactly are you asking for here? Help with your CD drive or help connecting to a router that you need to install stuff for but can't because of a broken CD drive? Or, do you need help configuring your PC/router??

Maybe you should buy a new CD drive, try installing the software you need and then get back to us if you need further help.

Also, please add your distribution to your profile so we know what you're using.

Ask a useful question and you'll get a helpful answer. What is your question?? Saying "I need help with my network" doesn't tell us anything about what you've tried, what you've searched for, what you're actual problem is.

Please ask an appropriate question, then someone will answer you. No-one has offered any help because no-one knows what your problem is.

For example:
Quote:

I read a tutorial on how to do this, but it involves installing something.
Where was this tutorial?? Post a link to it so others can see what you've tried.

P.S. Posting "Help me" over and over again will almost certainly NOT get you any help! Be specific in your question!

My original problem was that I couldn't figure out how to get on the internet with mandrake linux. I don't need help any more: I figured it out on my own yesterday.

Please post what the solution was so others can benefit. This is a community, remember.
