HomePNA internet connection fails in MEPIS 3.3.1 - Help!
I'm a newbie to Linux and MEPIS 3.3.1, and I'm having trouble getting my HomePNA connection to work!
I've tried K/Ubuntu with success after adding the following to the /etc/modules file:
eth0 homepna=1
pcnet32 homepna=1
I then enter the following into the command line:
modprobe pcnet32 pcnet32_homepna=1
depmod -a
I then reboot, and have a perfectly working internet connection in K/Ubuntu. I figured I'd try this for MEPIS 3.3.1 (since both are Debian-based, right?), but of course it doesn't work.
To my dismay, Windows XP recognizes this connection automatically, but I REALLY want to move away from XP into Linux. As this is my last major hurdle, can someone more knowlegeable in Linux help me break free from Windows!? I'd REALLY appreciate your help on this!
Many thanks in advance, Stephen

HomePNA Connection Problem SOLVED!
Dear Nix-Hard,
Thank you very much for taking the time to reply to my post. I too had checked out those links that you noted in your reply, but as a newbie, I was unable to decipher or make any sense of the instructions they offered.
I did, however, find a solution to the failed HomePNA connection ... eventually...and here it is!
Regards,
Stephen
To all interested parties:
I have figured out how to get a HomePNA connection working in Simply MEPIS 3.3.1 by adding this file:
/etc/modeprobe.d/modeprobe.conf
the following comments on the line after the one that reads "install floppy ...":
options eth0 homepna=1
options pcnet32 homepna=1
I then ran the following two commands at the command prompt:
modprobe pcnet32 pcnet32_homepna=1
depmod -a
I then rebooted and the internet connection worked perfectly!
Please bear in mind that this solution works for my AMD 79C978 model HomePNA/Ethernet card. I assume that it would work with any HomePNA card that MEPIS correctly identifies (as it did with my HomePNA card) and for which it loads the correct driver (pcnet32).
Good luck to anyone else out there who may be experiencing this same problem! It worked for me and I sincerely hope it does for you too!
I am satisfied that - as a newbie - I have contributed at least SOMETHING back to the MEPIS community!
long Live MEPIS! I am now one happy camper!
Regards,
Stephen
