Any luck so far ?
What are you setting up anyway, "home network" can be quite a few things
I'm thinking what distros are you using, if you will be sharing internet, printers or something else. As said, NFS for pure linux LAN, samba for mixed one. Both are fairly simple to set up.

Also what are you trying to network together? Just file sharing between PC's? Are you hust trying to share a broadband connection between all of them?
