Question Heres a real problem


I am a beginer in linux I just installed madrake 8.1 and I am tring to turn a linux box into a router and dns server. My problem now is that I cant get my network cards to be reconized by the auto setup at the begging. What should I do?

What network cards are they? Makes and models please...

They are old cards made by smc I dont know the model # they were given to me. My friend tells me I should go get 3coms

Hmm...old cards (ISA?), no model #, no documentation, no drivers. That doesn't sound like a good place to start.


3COM cards are well supported under Linux, but they're much more expensive than other, equally well-supported cards.

Inexpensive NICs based on the Realtek 8129/8139 chipset (such as the SMC 1211) or cards that use the "tulip" module are a good bet.
