Here's Another Samba Question..

I'm using Redhat 9 and Windows XP. I have samba up and running "partly". The problem I'm having is I can't access my Linux shares from my windows box. I can get to my shares from the Linux box to windows. I keep getting this error:

\\Myhome is not available. You may not have permissionto use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have permissions.

The network path was not found.

"Myhome" is the name of my server. Is this a case sensitive problem? No matter what I try, nothing seems to work. Please help..

you have to create a samba user. from your linux box as root at the command line type
Code:
smbpasswd -a username
where username is your linux username. you will have to assign a password. then from windows when you browse to \\myhome you should be prompted for the username and password.

in windows, case doesnt matter, but it does in linux. i usually just make everything lower case, that way there is no issue. also you might want to post your smb.conf file, there may be other things that need to be changed there to allow you to connect from windows

hope this helps!

I figured out the problem. I had 2 workgroups with the same name. My windows box share was (myhome) and Linux box share was (myhome). I changed my linux box to "mygroup", and I now, i'm able to access my linux box from my windows xp box with no problem.
