sorry if this post is not in the right place, iam new in linux fourms
here is my problem:
i ve installed smoothwall express 3.0
i followed the instruction,i used this type
green, red

the green share the internet using ip 192.168.1.1
and the red takes internet using ip 10.10.10.50
gateway 10.10.10.1

i can access the web interface for the smoothwall using https://192.168.1.1:441

but i cant access the internet
any help to make it work ?

Can't access the Internet from the SmoothWall box, or from client machines in the LAN? What does the client configuration look like? Are you using DHCP or static addresses?

What kind of smoothwall configuration did you initially choose? I would guess you chose half-open, meaning that the default is that most if not all outbound requests are blocked by default. Although its been a while since I built my Smoothie, I am reasonably sure you must expressly turn on port 80 for outbound requests.

i solved the problem i gave it DHCP while i was configured it manulally
this solved the issue, but i have a question
cant i have multi wan like in clarkconnect ?

I need help to configure my smoothwall box. I installed it in a virtual machine using vmware server 2. i got it working after hours of trying it and reading a lot. I am able to access it from a webpage. however, the other computers that connect throug GREEN are not able to connect. I am going to keep trying until i find how to get it working. it would be nice an explanation of exactly how the configurations work....
just to let you know my router's ip is 192.168.1.1 which is the default gateway.... do i have to put this somewhere in the configuration of my smoothwall. Do i leave its default settings?? What shall i do? i have been messing with all these but nothing yet...
just to finish my isp's Dns's are 200.62.64.1 and 200.62.64.65.

i was having the same problem and i soldved it by setting the red interface ip DHCP
i was setting it before static
if you are also setting it static change it to dhcp and wish god it will work

well i have a network which is supposed to connect through the green area but they are not able to connect. Now i have all these computers with static ips and i do need them like that. i have tried putting my smoothwall box with dhcp (red). i have also tried to put a destination ip(computers on the green are that are not able to connect through my smoothwall) on the incoming networking and i leave everything in blank, but it tells me that i need to input an external source ip.... which i dont know why when it says that i can leave it in blank. and regarding to the dhcp it has to be like that because my isp provides me with dynamic ips...
if i get it to work which i hope so... what would be the best size for the cache that i can use so that my internet speed can actually speed up instead of getting slower for having a huge cache... my broadband is 1 Mb

Can the smoothwall ping any thing outside your network? Do you have the DHCP server running on the smoothwall, it should provide your green network with IPs. Then when the Green network needs internet access the smoothwall should NAT them.

I'm kind of confused with the following bold statement

Am I correct in thinking that you want your smoothwall to pass your ISP's dhcp assignment into your Green network and assign IPs to your computers?

and regarding to the dhcp it has to be like that because my isp provides me with dynamic ips(it was isp....) and according to what i was reading in the red interface you always have to put it with dhcp unless your internet service provider(isp...) gives you an static ip. you can check that by going to http://whatismyip.com/. it will give the ip address that your isp assings you everytime you connect to the internet. if you check this ip and if you always get the same ip.., then you have an static ip and this is when you can leave the red interface with this static ip.... in your smoothwall box

And about the ping i do not get any reply... and do not know anything about my smoothwall natting my green network..
and this is what i want: my isp service go to my router then it goes to my smoothwall which provides the internet service to my green network through a switch but i need the computers on the green network with static ips.....

What type of internet do you have (cable or DSL)? When your smoothwall is plugged into your router, what color are the status lights on the router (RED or GREEN).

You can have static IPs in your green network, you should turn off smoothwalls DHCP server, and then when setting up the Green network nodes make sure your gateway IP is the smoothwalls IP.
