Seems like a Win XP question, not really a Linux question.

But here are a few tips:
-Enter the start menu, go to "Control Panel" and then double-click on "Printers".
-This should open a window with all printers that you have installed.
If you don't see the Hp PSC printer in that window, then you need to retry the installation.
-Try using the detailed view (menu View -> Details)
This will show you the status of each printer. You can double-click any of the printers to get more info, ie
the list of documents that are ready to be printed on that particular printer (the "printer spool").

If that doesn't help you find the cause of the problem, you can try:
-checking the wiring and the power of the printer (some printers may require that you turn them on before you boot your computer)
-check http://jsifaq.com or http://support.microsoft.com or the support site of HP for additional info (latest drivers, etc).
-Right-clicking on "My Computer", choosing "manage" and looking out for any devices that indicate errors (red cross over icon or yellow triangle with exclamation point inside - usually). This only applies to printers you've installed on the computer itself, not network printers.
If your printer has an error, click on it to see the cause and/or re-install the drivers.

Furthermore, you may want to check if you've installed the proper printer drivers.

Now I see. So, you send a document for printing from your Linux box to the Win box. The Win box sees the printing command and initialises the printer (ie puts the document in the list of waiting documents of the printer - often called the "printer spool").
The printer notices the new document and prepares itself for printing, but then it suddenly stops before it has actually printed anything.
Right?

If that's the case, there's most likely a problem with the spooling of documents. Probably Win is still waiting for Linux to send some characters that indicate the end of the document or the end of a page or something like that. Linux just doesn't send the right key sequence.

If your HP printer supports it (which it probably does), could you try using the "ps" (PostScript) version of the printer driver? Linux may send the documents out in PS format, rather than PCL (Printer Command Language).
Modern HP printers support both languages (ie PCL v6 and PS).
Or you could try converting the document to PostScript format and then send it off to the printer.

If Linux doesn't use the proper lingo, then Win and the printer can't handle the message properly.

On your Linux box, in the printer config (cups or whatever), you may want to look for options that tell you in what language you're sending docs to the printer.
However, I'm no expert in printer configuration, so I can't help you with that any more.
You'll need to do some research...
