ip addresses are:
192.168.1.1 - router
192.168.1.10 - my mums windows xp pc
192.168.1.20 - my brother's windows xp pc
192.168.1.30 - my windows xp pc
192.168.1.35 - my linux pc
192.168.1.40 - my dads windows xp pc
now, i've plugged in the linux box, set up its ip and network card etc., but it won't do anything on the network..... i can't even ping anything.....
any ideas?
this may sound dumb, i don't have any experience with linux....
can u ping the linux box from the winxp machines?
Have u tried checking the contents of
/etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/eth0.route to see if u have the gateway configured
also u can check out /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0
and /etc/sysconfig/networking/devices
Make sure the link lights are illuminated on the router and NIC.
If you can not ping the router check the output of ifconfig. Does it show
valid information like IP address etc...
