help setting up port using IPTABLES

Hello there, I am currently in a network where everyting is locked (yep, just gotta love it).

Now he (my sysadmin) was trying to open up port 3724 on the network only for my computer, here is the command he used:

IPTABLES -A INPUT -p tcp --destination-port 3724 -m mac --mac-source
00:40:F4B:53:B6 -j ACCEPT

The method was to block it for all other computers except mine so we used my MAC Address as the source...

However when I try to play WOW it doesn't work, I only get: connecting...

How can I set up the port?

you would probably want to use tcpdump or a similar tool to look at what network connectivty is actually being attempted.

He means that you got to log or dump the packets generated from your box over to your firewall to see whether your game, i.e. "WOW" does use any other port or not or you got to reach at the base of the problem with this way only. (this is a way to troubleshoot your problem)

Be rest assured, you got to do nothing & infact ask your sys admin to do all this. Ask him to use any packet logger & log packets to see what is coming & going through firewall related to your GAME.

Though i think that you got to configure your FORWARD and OUTPUT chain as well, as you have informed that everything is locked. Presently we can suggest you this only limited solution or maybe you got to let us know more abt your firewall for further solution.
