help needed with samba. newbie

Hi,

I have a wireless network. 2 PCs are connected to the internet. 1 runs winXP pro (SP2) and the 2nd linux knoppix.

I brought up the Samba server on the knoppix and it can see the workgroup i set up in winXp and can see the computer name. When I try to login I get promped for a user name and password. I tried my windown login but with no success. Does this require login detail I'm not aware of?

I also want to login from my windows box to the linux one. how do I do that?

Many thanks for your help.

Did you set the smbpassword?

smbpassword -a user1

That should prompt you for a password for user1. If you create a user1 user in linux as well you will be able to see your home directory.
