Help needed with BIND on CentOS 6.4
I think I have got myself into a real mess. For the last few days I have been trying to set up a DNS server and I have been following several how-to's, probably too many. I have got to the stage where I don't know where I. When I was running Ubuntu server I followed a step-by-step how to and that's all I had to do it just worked. I can't use the same one on CentOS as some of the files are different and in different locations.
I am running a small network of 4 machines. The network is connected to the Internet via DynDNS. I want to configure a caching name server I don't want anything more complicated than that so that rules out adding slaves etc.
I have two questions. The first is can someone point me to a really simple straightforward step-by-step configuration to meet my requirements. I have tried the one on HowToForge but that was giving me errors. I have also tried some Webmin in tutorials. Many of these tutorials do not have enough explanation.
My next question that he is, I think with all the attempts I have left some junk behind in the various config files. The BIND files seem to be in more than one place e.g. what is the best way of removing all those files and reinstall BIND.
If anyone could give me some guidance it would be greatly appreciated.
Robert…

1. Setup caching only DNS: Try taking a look here http://tecadmin.net/configure-cachin...er-on-centos-6.
NOTE: this will use your gateway as the DNS server
2. Reinstall bind: This should get you back to the original files

Thanks again, Robert
