Help needed in confing vsftp

Okay,

I'm building a FTP-server to share files and to store my own files. I'm using vsftp for it.

I need the following:
/home/ftp/public to show up to all users and requires no password. Users can only view and download files.
/home/ftp/private same exept requires password authentication and can upload files

I read few tutorials and still I am confused on how this could be done.

Here's my current vsftp.conf file.
Code:
ftpd_banner=Zmyrgel's Secure FTP!
xferlog_enable=YES
connect_from_port_20=YES
hide_ids=NO
max_clients=20
max_per_ip=3
anon_root=/home/ftp/public
write_enable=NO
anonymous_enable=YES
local_enable=NO
anon_upload_enable=NO
anon_mkdir_write_enable=NO
pasv_enable=NO
ftp_username=ftp

Edit: Okay, I got it to work so that I can view and download the files in /home/ftp/public. How about that authenticating uploading thing?

Hi Zmyrgel,

I'm not sure if you can do this kind of administration in vsftpd.conf. I know you can with glFTPD. This will do what you want though:

local_enable=yes

Then add a user with /home/ftp/public as his home dir and chmod/chown the directory accordingly.

ie:
addgroup ftpadmin

adduser ftpadmin -g ftpadmin -h /home/ftp/public

chown -R root:ftpadmin /home/ftp/public

chmod -R 770 /home/ftp/public

You can then use chattr +i if you don't want people to be able to delete files.
