Help!! Ethernet adapter not detected.

I am relatively new to linux. I recently upgraded from Mandrake 9.0 to 9.1. Prior to the upgrade my internet connection worked fine. Since upgrading, however, things have taken a turn for the worse.

At first, if I reconnected through Mandrake Control Center my connection would work for the session I was in though I would be forced to reconnect each time. Things have now gotten worse and I can no longer reconnect at all. When I try to reconnect in Control Center I now receive the following message: "No ethernet network adaptor has been detected on your system". As mentioned earlier, I was originally able to reconnect on this system. It is a dual boot with XP and the connection is still working on the XP side.

I should add that I am using a SMC EZ Connect USB/Ethernet converter for an ADSL conncection.

Any help possible would be really appreciated. I am new to linux and am very frustrated at this point in time.

Thanks

It seems that your system doesnt load the modules for your network adapter.

Load the modules for the network adapater with "modprobe X", X being the name of the network adapter, or more correctly the name of the module which supports your network adapter.

Read in the Net-Howto to find which module goes to your network adapter.

Thanks for the hint. I will try it once I return home from work tonight.
