Help: Can't ping my linux server

I would appreciate any help in solving this headache:

I am running a small LAN. Mostly win 95/98 clients. My server and internet gateway is Linux Mandrake 8.1 (kernel 2.4.8). At the moment I can ping my network machines from linux server, but they cannot ping the server! I receive a message "request timed out".
Any ideas for where I should look?

Sounds like ICMP type 8 requests are getting rejected on the Linux box by a firewall of some sort.
ICMP type 0 replies are accepted back in, so you can ping out.

If your Linux box can ping the systems on the LAN then the connection is fine.

Tip:
Check firewall settings.

I will start digging. :-) Do you happen to know any software, that can help configure firewall via graphical interface instead of command prompt. I am running bastille.
