As per my experience in VPN Industry, i discover the theory of VPN which i think helpful for you to figure out VPN Functions and its uses.

The virtual private network is more of a facility than a service that allows you to work at your preferred IP address from a remote location. It comes in handy when you want to be anonymous while online or want to explore the contents of a particular website that is otherwise blocked in your particular area.

How it Works?
With a VPN, your original IP address is masked and what others see is your manipulated IP address, which further minimizes your chance of being tracked or blocked due to unauthorized use of a particular website.

VPN Protocols:
Because a VPN Software creates a secure “tunnel” through the public network, the protocols used to establish this tunneled connection are called tunneling protocols, there transfer your data into encrypted form. There are few Protocols are:
1) PPTP VPN
2) L2TP VPN
3) IPSec VPN
4) SSL VPN
5) HYBRID VPN

Key Functions of VPN:
• Access the blocked websites
• Secure internet surfing
• Secure sensitive data and Online transcitions
• Use the facilities of VoIP without being identified
• Internet remote access client connections
• LAN-to-LAN internetworking
• Controlled access within an intranet
• Change of server location
• Change Multiple ip address.
• Send confidential emails without the fear of being hacked or interfered by any third party
