Having trouble with connectivity in Fedora Core 4

This is my first post here, I have found this site so helpful that I haven't had to post before, but this problem has me stumped. I must mention that I am a Linux newbie so bare with me. I have Fedora Core 4 setup on two of my machines, I have it setup on a home LAN which has a couple of XP machines setup on it. My problem is this, i have the Fedora machines setup for DHCP and my router works as a DHCP server, I have no problem with connectivity on the XP machines but when I initially get onto the Internet with the Fedora machines it gives me a timeout, if I refresh it gives me the same timeout, but usually on or around the third try it connects right up. It will keep working until I close the browser, then when I open up the browser I have to go through the same process.

Hello!

before using the browser PLS try the following things:

ping your router & any outside connections.
also try telnetting the router or any other known system.

if they works fine then the problem might not be with the network connectivity.

regrads...
