I am trying to VPN from my linux box to work. At work, the VPN server is running W2K. I have read through the VPN HOW-TOs but I can't make sense of what I need to be doing. Or if I'm doing things correctly, the docs seem to make assumptions in knowledge. Perhaps I just need to keep re-reading them.

Has anyone successfully gotten a VPN to work in client mode on their linux box, if so can you give me any pointers. Is it really this difficult to get it to work?

I have got pptp installed, and have edited the /etc/ppp/chap-secrets file.

# client server secret IP addresses
vpn.mywork.com BRUTUS\\mjohnson pass123
BRUTUS\\mjohnson vpn.mywork.com pass123

/usr/local/bin/pptp vpn.mywork.com noauth name 'BRUTUS\mjohnson' remotename vpn.mywork.com

I didn't have anything in the secrets file for 'IP addresses'. I'm not do any masquerading. Everything runs without error, but it just doesn't work. I can't ping any of the machines at work...

thanks for your time!
