"hard error" configuring qmail
I am new to a forum, i found Linuxquestion.org to be quite good.
My problem is that when i run "./config" as part of the LWQ (Life With Qmail) it comes up with the following error: "Your hostname is servername.domainname.co.za. hard error Sorry, I couldn't find your host's canonical name in DNS. You will have to set up control/me yourself. " i've though about my DNS and some of the qmail control files, but i am not getting anywhere. can someone give me some pointers. I'm running Red Hat 9, on a dual Xeon server, with 1Gb Ram and 400Gb HD. I'll answer any question about the way my server is setup. |
If you run:
dig +short servername.domainname.co.za Does it return your server IP address? If not then you will need to add it to your DNS server. |
when i run "dig +short servername.domainname.co.za", i dont get anything.
But is it necessary to run a DNS server on the mail server. Sorry to sound stupid, but which file do i add this information (My server's IP Address) into. |
Try running ./config-fast pcname.domainname.co.za
e.g. ./config-fast mail.bob.co.za Or you could always try following the tutorial at www.qmailrocks.com |
I got it working a few months back already. There are some steps that you need to skip, depending on your current server configuration at that time.
