hacking up a dsl connection

I've been wondering whether or not it would be possible to hack a dsl connection so that 2 modems could be directly connected, thus cutting out any latency in a wireless connection. At this point once one modem connects to the internet it works wonderfully. As soon as the second modem is turned on both connections die. Any ideas? Just wondering.

I know you can have two (and up... I once made up to 25 on a single modem) connections on the SAME modem, but I doubt you can do it on TWO modems... the two model will probably conflict over your phone line resulting, DSL uses some very special frequency there, I doubt it is made to be shared by some modems.
