My routing table cycles between:

It seems to cycle every few minutes or so. In the latter my ability to reach my nameservers is lost, as well as, the ability to ping a local wired windows box (192.168.1.134)

Any idea what is going on with this?

Problem solved

Many thanks to all.

The problem didn't kill my curiosity or my Linux spirit. I am a great deal more aware of network traffic, routes, troubleshooting and management now (thanks to this problem).

After I got my routing tables stable and persistent, converted my addressing to static rather than DHCP, and disabled NetworkManager, I tried the MTU step down and voila! 1400 made all the web sites work finally.

I am going to return to DHCP and NetworkManager to see if I can isolate the fix to strictly MTU. If that is the case, my routing table must have kept that from fixing things before.

I will post my findings here for future souls desperately searching for an answer.
