i dont have anything important on my linux comp. i could just reinstall linux..............

No there is no need to do that. I'm not sure why that isn't working - I always thought it was a standard package that was installed.

Try using Mandrake Control Center.
1) Open "Mandrake Control Center"
2) Click on "Network and Internet"
3) Click on "Connection"
4) Click on "Wizard"
5) Click "Next" and enter the details I mentioned before (your hostname can be anything you want - eg "mylinuxcomp").
6) make sure you have selected to restart the network service then click OK to all the windows.

You can verify the changes by running:
ifconfig

ok reinstalled, no big deal, i have the control center now

i figured out why i couldnt find the control center, i deleted it that was a dumb move

anyways, i got them to ping each other, but ICS still doenst work

konqueror says "unknow host www.siteaddress.com"

mozilla doesnt work either

on the menu where it asks for the gateway IP what should i call the host?

i got it working, i had to change the dns IP to the XP box's ip address

Glad you got it working!

If you get "unknow host www.siteaddress.com" then it is a good next step to try pinging an ip address - this way you can pin the problem down to a DNS resolution problem.
