Gnome based ftp clients compatible with xbox

I've been having some hard times ftping to my xbox successfully in linux. I can use a command line based client such as ncftp, but would really like a gnome based graphical client to get the job done. GFTP has gotten me the closest. I can log in to my xbox, and I can see the file system, however, if I browse more than one layer into the filesystem, I get Invalid Response Received '2' from remote host. I've found a few other people with this problem as well but I have not found a solution to it. Nautilus can't browse the filesystem after connecting, Fireftp for firefox doesn't seem to enable passv even if the box is checked, so I can't even hold a connection. Xbox's ftp server from evox has always seemed pretty flakey, I had a hard time finding a decent windows client for it when I was running windows. GFTP seems so slick, I wish I could get it fully functioning. I'm running ubuntu (warty). Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

2 questions

1) What distro is on your xbox?
2) Why not use a Real ftp server?

It's obvious that evox is your weak link. I suggest getting a new ftp-server.

Here's a couple ftp progs for ya.
filerunner(graphical)
ftp(commanline)

Thanks for the suggestions. I do also have a real ftp server. All I'm using the xbox for, is pulling data from the xbox to backup onto my pc. Backing up games for example. I'm running evox v 3921 kernel version 1.00.5101.01. It is obvious that the xbox is the weak link, because I have no problems using gftp on my other ftp server. Tried filerunner - same problem - I get dropped after going more than one level into the file system. I'm going to look into what can be done on the xbox side of things, since obviously that is where the problem lies.

Sorry to confuse. I didn't mean get a ftp server other than your xbox. I meant get a Real ftp server on your xbox. I've never heard of evox before, but it's obviously crap.

evox is indeed crap, but it contains more than just an ftp server. Evox is the os running on the xbox. I did not go with a chip based modification because I was too cheap to buy a chip. At the time, this was the only available solder based modification that I knew of. I'll have to look into possibilities of flashing a new os on top of this....but without it, my xbox would be rendered useless!

You do know that there are ways of running Linux on an xbox without any mods, right?

Yeah I know you can run linux on an unmodded xbox - a little late for that though considering mine was modded over a year ago! Worst case scenario is I can have my windows laptop pull the data off of the xbox with flashfxp, and then upload it to my main computer. I was hoping to get that laptop running ubuntu or debian also though. Another option would be to see if there's a way to run linux on a modded xbox without losing standard xbox functionality.

This may not help, then again it won't hurt to try. Have you played with the FTP settings in the various FTP clients you are trying, specifically passive FTP and persistant connection (keepalive) settings?

I've certainly played around with the passive settings. As mentioned above, fireftp does not seem to enable passive whether or not the box is checked. As far as persistent connections, I'll take a look at that options on my various clients when I get home for work. Thanks for the idea!
