GigE with some of the cheaper cards

Has anyone got GigE going at home with simple cards that are under 50$? I haven't used Gigabit Ethernet too much, but I think it would be great fo the massive amount of data I transfer between machines. I thought about Firewire, but it didn't really pan out. has several GigE cards for under 50$ any of them linux compatable?
