Having a tough time getting SAMBA going. Starting to wonder if it is even running. The rpms are definatley isntalled. I have an smb.conf file that I have been editing with little success.
I have a swat 901/tcp line in my /etc/services file, however
http://200.200.200.249:901 does not work (connection refused by remote host). using 127.0.0.1, venus (the server name) and local host instead of my IP does not help.
the command smbstatus gives this:
[root@venus /etc]# smbstatus
Couldn't open status file /var/lock/samba/STATUS..LCK
what's that mean? That doesn't sound good!
Been reading through O'reilley's online Samba book, which says that most of the installation should be in /usr/local/samba, however I don't even have this directory. What does that mean?
I'm a clueless newbie.
