Getting Online

This is my first post here. I'm just wondering with my setup:

-windows pc with winmodem-
+
+
-linux pc with external modem-

What would be the easiest way to get online?

I've considered:
-How my external modem isnt supported, i dont think... its not a winmodem though, its just cheap i guess.
-Putting the windows pc online with the Analog X proxy and connecting to it as my proxy. (except i cant use AIM or much else)

Any ideas?
Thank you,

Hmmm, is it a serial external modem? check for sure at http://www.linmodems.org
Or is it an UnsupportedSonofaBitch external modem?

Little of both

Well, i'm guessing its unsupported. It wont connect like it should, but it does show up. Since its made by Practical Peripherals, Linux just called it a "General Serial Modem".
I might have to just buy a name brand one...

If you connect it to your serial port, then it is almost certainly supported! All you need to do is point your favourite dialer (kppp?) to the appropriate serial port, set it up to use your current ISP phone and account details, and you should be away! Here's how to tell which device to use:

COM1 = /dev/ttyS0
COM2 = /dev/ttyS1
COM3 = /dev/ttyS2
COM4 = /dev/ttyS3
