Getting my linux box to the internet

The problem is like this: i have a newly intalled linux distro(redhat) and i need it to get connection with the internet, the only problem is that my connection is shared and there is no need for passwords etc, i have all the ip, subway adresses etc, the problem is where to put these settings? I have tried but the only thing that happens is that it shows that i have a active network device and the connection should be up, but it isnt, logs dont give nothing usesfull too.. Im looking forward for help, thanks..

are you trying to connect to an internet gateway in your LAN?

1)use netconfig, specify your gateway's ip or use "route add" command
2)put /etc/resolv.conf
-nameserver your.name.server.ip

should be something like that
