Getting Internet via Crossover Cable

How hard would it be to use a crossover cable to connect a Linux PC to a Windows XP PC to get Internet on the Linux PC? How could I do this?

You'd need Internet Connection Sharing on the XP box. Other than that, just set up static IPs on both boxes and you should be good to go. What you ask is very possible.

One question that begs to be asked is why are you using a crossover cable when 4 port switches are a dime a dozen? Is there a specific need you have?

Maybe he just happens to have a crossover cable and nics laying around. For a 2-computer network, it reduces the complexity, cost, and risk of failure. The hardware layer shouldn't be a big deal.

I'm just trying to get information so that if I encounter a specific problem I can look at it from multiple viewpoints

orgcandman - fair enough. Sorry I jumped the gun, however I was just explaining one possible reasoning for his desire to use a crossover cable.
