Gentoo install looses connection to internet.
hi, i am installing gentoo from this guide http://www.osnews.com/story.php?news_id=6589
and when i # chroot /mnt/gentoo /bin/bash i loose my internet connection, i can still ping the router but nothing else, it works fine before chroot and if i alt + f2. can anyone help me here? thanks |
why are you using that?? You should only use the guide at gentoo.org. you are probably not transferring the resolv.conf which is a very clear step in the real guide.
|
ok. i am using that guide because i have failed to install from the official guide on close to 20 attempts :( and was trying to see if another guide would be a lil easier.
|
if you follow each step in turn, there's very little reason it won't install.
you see what can happen when you try an "easier" version.... bits are missing, and it doesn't work. you should be able to copy the /etc/resolve.conf to /mnt/gentoo/etc/resolv.conf before the chroot and it should keep working. |
yeah, but then i suppose something else will be missing later on in the install
|
probably! ;)
