Sorry I misread your post - I thought it was eth0

When you got to the point of adding it did you definately use:
route add default gw 192.168.0.1 dev eth0

hey, no big! so what do you think I should try next? If I kill the local and try to add it, it says network is unreachable. what the heck goes the local loopback do, anyhoo? if I leave lo up, and try to add a default gw, I get the same friggin thing. bout to take this router and drown it in water.

ok guessing lo has something to do with being on a router. in case I didn't mention it before, if I run a straight feed to the cable modem, it loads up two eth0s and works aok. put the router back in and bam. netfear is so cute.... for me to poop on!

2 eth0s? That seems odd - almost impossible.

Can you post the output from:
lspci | grep -i eth
dmesg | grep -i eth

How many network cards do you have?
