FTP with port worwarding

Hi;

I have a router which has been set up to support port forwarding.

What is the ftp command line in order to access the system which is part of the private network?

I have tried "ftp xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:yyy" (yyy is the input port of the system behind the router)

and it doesn't work. Is the command that I am using right?

The correct syntax is:

ftp WAN_IP_address Port_number

Where Port_number is the same as entered in the router which may not necessarily be the same is number as behind the router. Example, in the router's configuration you can forward port x to port y. You would specify port x in the command and not y.
