FTP Server
Hi all,
Here's the situation, Ive got a Redhat 7 Server. Its been working perfect as a router DHCP and samba server forever. But now i want to setup a FTP server so that my brothers can access their home folders from college by logging in(they always forget something). No anonymous user access.
I have read a few articles on FTP servers and am considering ProFTPD as the way to go. as it seems very configurable.
What I need from you guys is to tell me if this is possible and maybe some tips on how to do it.
Server has no X stuff installed it is command prompt only (I like doing things the hard way).
Much Appreciated

Its definately possible but you realise that using ftp will expose their usernames and passwords to anyone who is sniff the network at their college.
cheers

Damn it
Thanks for the reply Jamie
Security was my next question. I dont want any chance of damn students getting hold of my passwords.
I was thinking maybe there is some sort of Encryption method or maybe just making the files read-only. so even if they do get the passwords they cant erase or write anything to my HD. Samba is set to ignore anything other than my LAN so there is no chance of logging in that way.
Any ideas anyone
Thanks in advance

You can use ssh as it provides a secure FTP replacement, however your remote users need to have a sftp client available on their boxes too...
cheers
