so, I wanna run an FTP server on my existing RH7.3 box. what should i do? the RH.com tutorial seems to want me to use old daemons that aren't included with rh7.3 anymore.
RH 7.3 comes with FTP, you probably just didn't install during the initial install. I think it comes with wu-ftp but I would recommend ProFTPD... not sure if it comes with Proftpd but you could browse your cd's for it and install that way, or either download from: http://proftpd.linux.co.uk/
Red hat 7.3 comes with wu-ftpd by default, if you didn't installed it you mus install it now from RH cds.
Search the 3 cds for wu-ftpd and anonymous something RPMs.
After its done, by default the wu-ftpd will be able to have any account connected by ftp and is directed to their home directories. Anonymous will be directed to another directory tree. root is denied. Restart your computer after the rpms are installed. (you dont need to restart the computer, just a particular service, but I forgot wich is it). And there is it, KDE has wu-ftpd GUI to configure it better, like custom messages, ratios and other stuff, or you can mannualy edit the etc/ftpaccess.
To lear how to configure this file:
man ftpaccess
