Question FTP-server

Hi, I have some problems with my FTP-server, and was wondering if anyone could help me!?

I'm now running a FTP-server of my SuSE linux box for my friends, that means they have accounts on it, but now I want to enable anonymous login ( where you login with anonymous/ftp user and your e-mail as address ). All this is working fine, I can connect as anonymous and all, but only when I type 'ls' can I view the files, if I user 'dir' nothing shows up!? But this is not the case when my friends logon, they can use both ls and dir.... Any ideas??

This has to do with the /bin directory that the anonymous users are accessing in order to process commands. I'm not exactly sure with anonymous ftp whether it's in /var/ftp/bin or not, but you could verify the configuration by reading some of the on-line documentation at places like http://www.linuxdoc.org .

As an aside, you should probably look into vsftp. It is an alternative ftp server. At this point, I still think it remains un-hacked.
