Just a check - Have you added any names to the vsftpd.user_list file?

Reason I ask is any users in the list will be denied access in less you add the line

userlist_deny=NO

to the conf file

What does /etc/vsftpd.ftpusers and /etc/vsftpd.user_list say?
No offense, but you may want to read the forum before asking a question.

None Taken I noticed it - it's just my way of asking questions trying to be as unoffensive as I can.

You'll know then that by default any users named in the list are denied access by default until you change the way the list is interpreted.
