I have a home network of Windows machines all connected to the web through a RH 8 box which I use as a DNS, DHCP, mail, samba server, etc. It is also my router. When I try to access an FTP site on the web with Internet Explorer, I get an error message saying:
500 Illegal PORT Command
500 Unknown Command
Could this be because I have something configured wrong on my Linux router? Please let me know what you think! Thanks!!
Chris
PS. I am not running a firewall and am using NAT and IP Masquerading.
Are you trying to get to an external site that isn't yours with IE using FTP? And this Windows box is connected thru the router? How are you trying to connect to every FTP site, like by clicking a link or typing it in yourself? If typing yourself, how are you typing it as the errors your giving us seem to point to a invalid way to connect not using the right command, etc.
Use Passive FTP is checked already, David. Sometimes I connect by clicking a link, sometimes by typing it manually. Sometimes it works and I get in. Sometimes, it doesn't work!
Chris
So, I take it you guys don't think it's a problem with the Linux server/router?
IE is notorious for being a pain in the butt when using FTP. I steer clear and usually use command line FTP or GFTP (on my linux box). As long as your RH 8 box has the correct ports open (21 and 23, I think?) you should be fine.
