HI,
PLEASE HELP... IM A NEWBIE TO LINUX AND HAVE JUST INSTALLED 7.0 THE PROBLEM IS THAT I CANNOT FTP TO THIS BOX FROM ANY OTHER MACHINE; BUT CAN FTP OUT OF IT. TRYING TO FTP TO IT GIVES THE ERROR MESSAGE: >ftp: connect :10061
IVE BEEN SEARCHING FOR HELP ON THIS BUT CANT PIN-POINT MY PROBLEM... ANY HELP????????
Without an FTP server you cannot accept ftp connections. This stems from the fact that whenever anyone tries to ftp into your linux machine, they connect to port 21. An FTP server sits and listens on this port(actually inetd generally does, but you get the drift). With nothing there your going to get a problem connecting.
You should look into downloading an FTP Server(or installing one from whichever distro you used).
If your looking to download, I'd try Proftp, it's much easier to setup(and a HELL of a lot more secure) than wu.ftpd
