i have a linux box set up with mandrick 10.0. I have dlink router and a 2 wire dsl modem. i am using proftp. I can ftp with my windows machines within my home network but i am having a hard time connecting from the outside.
I checked all my firewall settings. i have my router routing all connections on port 21 to my linux box. i tried different modems i am not really sure where it is being blocked. Any help would be appreciated
for testing purpose off one modem
first test port 80 from outside if not work then
set that machine as DMZ ( testing purpose )
and test it again if work then test with port 21
i tried the dmz mode on my router no change i ended up trying my old linksys router and i opened up all ports and it worked fine so i think it is my router. So i went and got a wireless g linksys router today and everything working fine
if u intended to a heavy load users eg (p2p/torrent) i would suggest u grab old machine install 2 nic then install ipcop firewall , make it dedicated 5 gb hdd good enought n that will be more cheaper than linksys router but ultimate powerful
