ftp data port in proftpd and vsftpd
How can I change the ftp data port that proftpd and vsftpd use? I found a way to change ftp port 21 to a different one in the configuration files. My isp blocks incoming requests from port 20, so I would like to use a different one.
1) Change this stupid ISP. They do not provide you complete network access, they only give you a broken internet. I hope its really cheap. Send them e-mails, burn them.
2) Don't use Active FTP mode, use passive
3) Modify the source or find an option (port 20 is in the standard so not sure its possible for good servers)

Most people are using Firefox or IE or windows explorer in Vista to download from ftp. How can they use active mode instead of passive? Passive is the default fot those right?
I hope for the people who use it that as on every Windows so far, it won't hang miserably as soon as the server is not available..
An advice: ftp is unencrypted. Know it. Its not trivial at all to see traffic from somebody else on internet. If its ok for you, that's it. If not, use ssh and scp, sftp. (hum microsoft also don't know this standard protocol widely used btw )
proftpd has stood up to an incredible number of attacks for me. I'm not an expert, but over 200MB of logs from attacks are proof enough for me that it's solid. I would not switch based on excellent personal experience.
