ftp client that support linux attributes and synchronizition

hi
i use ftp for backing up my files in my network.
but when i copy files from solaris station in windows station. i loose linux file attributes and that files (X attribute, specialty ) cant used in solaris, again.

who can help me. i use auto ftp manager. please suggest another application that can synchronize files between 2 workstations and support Linux file system attributes.
thanks

well that's nothing to do with the client, it's the windows filesystem you copy them to. where's that information meant to go? try tarring the file up or something, that'll hold the attributes inside it

hi. thanks for reply.
but after starting of this thread i found that the same problem occurs on 2 Linux workstation, too. when i copied files from the solaris station to suse, attributes of files changed and X flag disappeared.

ok, so what's that using? i'm sure the ftp protocol shouldn't really be able to have much of a say over the permissions of a file, it doesn't see the data at that level afaik. have you tried using scp / sftp instead?

hi.
where is the locality of attributes of files? in file header or in system file table?I think that theme available in file.so there is no reason for any change during the transmission.
i will try scp and cp tomorrow, when i reach specific computers.

thanks acid_kewpie
