FTP between host(win xp) & guest(fedora 9) os in vmware

hi, i have installed vmware 6 on my host os(winxp) and fedora core 9 on my virtual machine.I am using NAT configuration between host & guest os.I can ping my host machine from guest and vice versa but i am unable to set ftp between two machines pls help.

did you install the VMware tools? there is a tool to allow moving files from the guest to the host...

otherwise the easiest way would to mount a samba drive from the fedora box to the xp box

Also why are you using NAT? try to use Bridged mode so the fedora box will have its own real IP on your network

I have my Linux system next to my Windows system and I can log onto the Linux box with no issues. When I try to FTP to the linux box it gives me a permissions error. I am definitly a NewBee to Linux but I amd 63 and have been working in all Unix environments so this is a new one for me.
What I do is FTP 192.168.1.199 and thats where the first error occurs. I am an applications developer for Throughbred Language and I need to get some apps over to my Linux box and of course back from it.

Are you sure you installed the ftp service on Fedora Core 9? Did you check firewall settings? You also need to configure VSFTP (FTP default for fedora/Red Hat) under /etc/vsftp, I believe.

on your linux box open a terminal as root
type iptables -F
this will flush your firewall so that everything is allowed.
try ftping again if it works then run the system-config-firewall app and allow tcp ports 20 and 21

thanks everybody for your quick response. the real culprit was the firewall. after removing the firewall for ftp port everything is working fine.The NAT was configured absolutely ok. Thanks again
