Active FTP requires connections from the client to the server and also from the server to the client this may be blocked by some firewalls in the network path.

Passive FTP only uses client initiated connections to avoid this problem.

Active Ftp --The source port always be port 20 on the server, and the destination port will be higher port (greater than 1024) on the client.

Passive Ftp --The source port will be higher port (greater than 1024) server, and the destination port will be higher port (greater than 1024) on the client.
